Well this is it! You are going to do 3 things this week.  Number 1, Please finish any work you have outstanding. Number 2, Submit a video clip of yourself that tells me what your favorite topic was this year, tell me a little bit about what your remember about it and why it was your favorite. Number 3, tell me your best memory from 8th grade and what your advice would be for the upcoming 8th grade class. You will submit both on canvas!

Week of May 4 - May 8

- No warm ups this week

- ZOOM meetings Tuesday and Friday at 1pm.   Check email for code.

This week we are going to be trying to come up with a prototype of an invention to solve one of the problems with plastic that you have identified.  I would really Love for you to come up with some type of invention, but due to the constraints we are under I am okay if you can come up with an initiative that has evidence that it will work.  Please don't just slap something down! (otherwise it will just be graded as incomplete with feedback on how to fix it!)

Remember the schedule is suggested and you may work at your own pace, just try to keep up as each piece builds on the next.

  • Monday & Tuesday - Read the Article, Engineering Is Bringing Fish Up from the Deep  and  watch the accompanying video.  Answer the Criteria and constraints for the article. You will also identify criteria and constraints for your invention/solution/initiative on this document as well. Submit on Canvas.

  • Thursday/Friday - Developing your Prototype.  If you are doing an initiative you can still use the same document but where you will put in your solution in place of the rough sketch of your solution, how you implement your initiative in the materials needed and your supporting evidence in place of the major features. Please know I will most likely give you feedback for things to improve on, so please make sure you check the comments on the assignment

Week of April 27-May 1, 2020

- No warm ups this week!

This week we are going to delve a little deeper into the problems with plastics.  I can't stress enough, please don't just slap something down as the more you look into it, the easier the final product will be at the end.   Remember we will end with a culminating project based off of Engineering for Good. Each step will be uploaded in canvas for feedback.

Remember the schedule is suggested and you may work at your own pace, just try to keep up as each piece builds on the next.

  • Monday & Tuesday - You are going to be creating an Infographic on one of the issues you identified about plastics that you noted in last week's Plastic & their impact assignment. You are required to have identify at least 3 sources of evidence and cite it on the assignment.  You will also want to sketch out or create a rough draft of your infographic for feedback.  Please understand that this will be a work in progress and I don't expect your first submission to be your final.

If you are unsure of what an infographic is, here are some some examples.

  • Thursday/Friday - Complete the infographic and submit on Canvas. begin thinking/researching a plastic problem/issue that you think you may have a solution to.  I understand that this isn't the easiest thing but I look forward to what you can come up with.  Next week you will begin designing a solution to your identified problem so please keep that in mind.

Week of April 20-24, 2020

- NO Warm Ups this week!

In observation of Earth Day Wednesday April 22nd and in light of our current stay at home situation, we are going to kind of try something a little new that will last over the next two weeks or so and end with a culminating project based off of engineering for good. Each step will be uploaded in canvas for feedback.

Remember the schedule is suggested and you may work at your own pace, just try to keep up as each piece builds on the next.

***Please send in school appropriate magazines by Wednesday (Sept. 11) for a project next week.

IF YOU GET YOUR VIDEO COMPLETED, WORK ON THE FOLLOWING:

Experiment/Variables Choice Board

**Measurement Tool Rubric

Metric Video Project

Working with a partner, your group will write, direct and produce a learning video to post on your “youtube” channel.  Your group will choose one of the metric tools that we have learned about (metric ruler, triple beam balance, or graduated cylinder) and create a 2 minute video showing youtube viewers what it is and how it works.  Be sure to follow all instructions below.

A written script and a camera script MUST be submitted before you record your video.  Be sure that you have all props ready when it is time to record.  Practice your script so that it flows easily when recording.  Both people in the group should be comfortable saying the script.  If your partner is absent on Thursday, I will designate someone to record your video, using your camera script as a guide.

Written script should include…

- what is being said and who is saying it.

- introduce yourself and your measuring equipment,

- tell what it is used to measure

- how to properly use the equipment

- include an example of a practical application of how this equipment would be used in the real world

Camera Script should include…

- location of video (background)

- when to zoom in or out on person or objects

- any props that are necessary for video

You will be given three days to write, edit and practice your script.  Videos will be recorded and edited on Friday.  All videos are due at the end of class on Friday.

**This project will take the place of the WCT for this week.  As always, do your best!
